The microphone uses a switchable 10dB pre-attenuation pad when capturing a loud source. Undesirable disturbances at the input of the Neumann U87 Ai amplifier is reduced by an additional switch which compensates for proximity effect and bass boost.
The manufacturing of the microphone takes place in a state-of-art ultra-clean room with the dust particles as much as about 100 particles per cubic foot because even a minute level of contamination can affect the sonic characteristics.
