Symphony 440 Design Group is immensely happy to be associated with award-winning Behringer, an audio equipment company founded by Swiss engineer Uli Behringer in 1989 in Willich, Germany. Behringer, being listed as the 14th largest manufacturer of music products in 2007, is a multinational group of companies with a direct marketing presence in over ten countries or territories and a sales network in over 130 countries worldwide. The Company’s philosophy is to provide professional audio products at prices affordable to every musician & Producer. Though originally a German manufacturer, the Company now has its headquarters in China. The Brand, owned by Music Group, is a holding company chaired by Uli Behringer, which also owns other audio companies such as Midas, Klark Teknik and Bugera, and Electronic Manufacturing Service Company Eurotec. In June 2012, Music Group acquired Turbosound Company to design and manufacture professional loudspeaker systems, formerly owned by Harman.

A Brief through Company’s History:

1989–2001: Foundation and early development:

Uli, the Company’s founder, was committed to music and technology at a very early age of around 16 when he had constructed a synthesizer. While studying sound engineering and classical piano at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf, Uli started to build his products due to the university’s limited equipment. On popular request for his gear from his friends, he soon received more orders than he could handle himself, leading to the creation of Behringer Inc. Mr Uli focused on studio audio processors such as noise reduction systems and compressors in the early days. Product development continued, and soon the lineup included guitar amps, PA amplifiers and loudspeakers, mixing boards, stompboxes, recording interfaces, microphones, digital pianos, guitars, lighting equipment etc. Behringer’s package of performance and low price is what made it appealing to people. Earlier days of the Company’s product manufacturing happened at Willich, Germany, since many of the individual components were from mainland China, In 1990, to reduce the production costs, Behringer shifted production from West Germany to mainland China. By 1997, Uli Behringer relocated to Hong Kong to better supervise the manufacturing quality and understand Chinese culture.

 Ear logo:

According to Mr Uli, his piano teacher, impressed with his sense of perfect pitch, nicknamed him “The Ear”, which became an inspiration for the Ear logo. The highlighted “ING” stands for “diploma engineer”, or the German academic title “Dipl.-Ing”, which he received upon his graduation from the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf.

CoolAudio acquisition:

In May 2000, Behringer acquired the rights to the CoolAudio technology from Intersil Corporation, a US-based semiconductor manufacturer. CoolAudio is a high-power Class-D amplification technology with power ratings of up to 4,000 Watts and efficiencies up to 90%, considered one the best in audio. The acquisition included an extensive intellectual property portfolio and licensees such as Alpine and Rowe, among others.

2002–2007: Behringer City:

In 2002, Behringer established its factory, Behringer City, in Zhongshan of China’s Guangdong province after it consolidated more than ten separate production locations into one vertically integrated plant. Comprising eight buildings involved in electronics, speakers, guitars, and digital pianos, it also hosts an onsite health clinic. Owning to run a self-contained plant allowed Behringer a greater level of quality control.

University:

Inspired by lean manufacturing and driven by the Kaizen philosophy of continual improvement, Behringer makes efforts to help its employees to improve. “Behringer University” supplies employees with training resources and E-learning courses to sharpen their career skills within the Company by providing training for management, career planning, health, language, and general knowledge courses.
